ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
it’s closing time at the pub, James is cleaning and putting up chairs. There is a knock at the door, James finds a man who will be dead soon standing in the doorframe.
James is packing up after a long shift when there is a knock at the door
Harold is standing in the door frame, hat in hand. He asks to be let in
James tries to send him away
The old man convinces him to let him have one pint
The old man sits at the bar and James gets him his drink
They speak about stuff
Harold goes into his life story
He tells three stories
They discuss each one
The play ends with a last drink.
James is a twenty something who only wants to close the pub. The old man is annoying him, but he doesn’t have the heart to kick him out. He begrudgingly listens to his stories, and tries his hardest to not give snarky remarks to the old man.
Harold is an old man who doesn’t want to die alone. he knows James doesn’t care, but it’s nice to have someone to listen. To every harsh word and sarcastic remark, he replies only with kindness. He tells James his story.
