FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS > CUE STAGE III
What do you teach at TYC?
At The Young Company Theatre we explore a wide variety of theatre styles, genres and conventions (such as script work, improvisation and pantomime to name a few) for young creatives ages 5 years through to 25 years of age. Our unique theatre workshops are individually designed by our qualified educators and professional theatre practitioners to explore these aspects in an engaging and creative setting, each working towards an end of semester performance showcase.
Your child will discover their electrifying creative abilities, super charged social confidence and magnetic idea generation skills as they are nurtured through our powerful youth theatre framework.
We showcase young talent at the end of each semester, during school holiday programs, also during term-time for our main-stage productions and community events. We reinterpret classic and contemporary stories for our time and also commission brave and relevant new writing. We are as ambitious as the young people we serve. Participants make new friends while also developing their acting techniques, self-confidence, communication and presentation skills, as well as their creativity and performance resume.
Which program would best suited for my child?
At The Young Company Theatre we cater for a wide variety of theatrical interests and levels of skill on stage. To ensure we recommend the ideal class for your child we firstly like to get to know a bit more about them. When do you run classes?
The Young Company currently run a variety of classes throughout the week (Monday - Saturday). These classes are run outside of school hours and coincide generically with the standard school term week from week 2 onwards. We also hold our special Holiday Drama Camps over the school holidays for young creatives ages 5-18 years who are looking for more dramatic adventures over the school holiday breaks.

What does my child need to bring?
If your child could please bring along a water bottle, their script (if they have one) and an additional snack to have before their class commences. Please note that due to some children’s allergies, we are a nut free zone.
What does my child need to wear?
We ask that your child wears comfortable clothing each day (ie: shorts and t-shirt or school uniform). On your child’s performance day, we ask students to please bring along theatre blacks (a black t-shirt/singlet and black tights/shorts/trousers with no visible labels on it). They wear these underneath their costume during the performance. We also have TYC black t-shirts available for purchase from the Box Office. Please just ask one of our facilitators for more information.
Can my child come to more than one class a week?
There is no limit to how many classes your child can be enrolled in per week. However, as each of our classes work towards a unique performance outcome, your child can only participate in the classes in which they are enrolled in.
Do you allow parents to sit in on classes?
To encourage all of our students to fully explore their dramatic skills on stage, we find it is best if parents do not sit in on classes. We do, however love to discuss any questions or queries you might have and our friendly facilitators are always available to have a chat to you. Just contact us to organise a meeting time.

Students are required to arrive at TYC according to the student call time for their performance date and remain at TYC until their performance finishes. We ask that on their performance day that they wear their theatre blacks (black t-shirt and black pants) and pack a water bottle. Your child’s showcase will generally commence one hour after their student call time and will finish according to their estimated end time. We ask audience members to begin arriving 10mins prior to the show starting.
Can I film the performance showcase?
Yes. You can bring along your own recording device to our end of semester productions and film/photograph the show, however we do request that flash photography is not used as is may distract the performers on stage.
What about costumes for my child’s performance showcase?
Your child will have the option to design their own costume from the TYC costume selection (which they will wear over the top of their theatre blacks), or they are more than welcome to make up their own at home.
