CASTING
Correct casting for a school production is often difficult. However it is essential that the student actors have a say in what character they would like to play. So during the audtioning process, ask them to write down three characters that they would like to be.
For major roles, you might want to liaise with other teachers in order to ensure that you obtain a second opinion.
It is also essential that casting decisions are put up in a public domain first, where student actors can firstly see for themselves what role they have received. This will allow you to see students reactions to their parts, in an open area. If some students are upset about your decision, you will be able to approach them individually.
